ME AND THE KANGAROOS!

Well I knew I would get to see them sooner or later! AND finally I got to go see the kangaroos. They did not like me to get too close cos there were some ‘joeys’ (babies) and so the moms were careful not to let us get too close. They are so cute and fluffy, but Aunty Tenina said they are tick ridden! So staying away was a good idea! These ones were just in a park and there are lots in the wild, not so much around the suburbs, though sometimes they do come in to the streets. They like to eat grass and leaves and lay around a lot in the sun. Sounds like a good life to me!

Well here I am eating the great Australian breakfast food! Vegemite toast! For those of you who have never heard of vegemite, it is a yeast extract paste that is supposed to taste like meat…it is very salty and Aunty Tenina LOVES it…but Sam’s mom Lori thinks it tastes like a mixture of vaseline and crunched up vitamin B pills and I have to agree with Lori! They eat it here like we eat Peanut Butter….on toast, on sandwiches, on crackers…YUCK! I am sending the class some to try out to see what you all think.

MISS SAIGON

Well, we went to the Buswood Casino and Theatre Complex to see Miss Saigon the musical the other night. It was OK but Aunty Tenina was disappointed. But it was fun to see all the people having dinner and at the casino and hotel. We took some pictures of me inside a cup held by a statue of Paddy Hannan. He was an Irish gold prospector who came to Western Australia and founded a gold field out in Kalgoorlie, which still gets gold out of it today! Some of the pictures of me in the theatre didn’t really turn out…but I put them on here anyway.

I guess I will be coming home soon so I need to start seeing a few more things before I go….hope you are enjoying my blog Sam and class! I will see you soon!

LAKE LESCAUNALTIA

WOW, that’s hard to spell! It sounds like Lesh-a-nol-tee-uh! (You might even sound Australian if you say it like that!) Lescaunaltia is actually a plant with pretty blue flowers, and although they call this a lake, we would think it was more of a pond! It is very pretty and lots of families go there to camp and bar-be-que! We went canoeing and some of the locals were very friendly to me! I had a great day.

WE GO HORSE RIDING

Well although I am not very big when it comes to horsing around, Aunty Tenina took me horse riding at Aunty Cati’s house! And I got to drive the tractor, which was pretty fun! It is an old tractor and doesn’t run very well. The horse only had one eye, so he wasn’t at all bothered by me sitting on his back. He barely noticed me in fact. Aunty Cati lives on 10 acres in Chidlow and has 2 children. They think Aunty Tenina has gone loopy and she quite possibly has! But it was a good day and we all had a good time and got home nice and tired. Sleeping is easy when you’re flat! SO I had a good sleep that night!

MOTHER’S DAY

Well today was Mother’s Day here in Australia, and I think it was in America as well. I hope my mom had a nice day. We had a quiet day at home with the family but had a nice dinner with friends and family. Aunty Tenina got lots of chocolate as gifts and she isn’t sharing! She got a nice card from all the kids as well. She is hoping to take me to Kings Park this week…(look that up on the Google Map) It is a big park that is famous in Perth and it overlooks the river. I have put some photos of it on here for you to see. We are going to go and see Kangaroos as well! I went rafting with the boys yesterday, but I did get rather wet and so the photos didn’t turn out too well. It was a lot of fun and we came third…it was a race and we had to build the raft first. Ours was made out of tires and air mattresses!

Anyway, I better go to bed. Another day tomorrow and so much nice weather, it’s amazing!

SORRENTO

Today I went to Sorrento. It is the beach, but there is a marina there. It is on the coast of Western Australia and is very beautiful. There is a children’s beach of white sand and blue blue water. For the moms there is lots of shopping and cafes on the boardwalk. There are also some water slides which are so much fun, but of course for someone who is made of paper, not so fun! So I stayed away from them. There are other attractions as well like a big Underwater World. Uncle Hamish went swimming with the sharks in there one time! I can’t imagine how scary that would have been.

Anyway, we sat in the sun and ate ‘chips’ which are just big fat fries and then fed some to the seagulls. Australians eat their ‘chips’ with salt and lots of vinegar…no sauce! We walked along the boardwalk and I pretended I was buying a boat at the marina. There are some nice boats! You can stay there too at the holiday accomodation if you want. Anyway, even though it is on the way to winter, the weather was beautiful, almost 30 degrees Centigrade…(work that one out class!)

I guess I will talk to you tomorrow. I think we are going rafting!

HELLO AUSTRALIA

Well hello Sam’s class,

ALL THE WAY FROM OZ! It was a long way in the envelope to get here, but I have to say that laying down all the way is a lot better than it would have been if I’d been on a plane sitting up! SO..when I got here Aunt Tenina decided to take me out and about and to see the neighborhood. She lives with her husband and children in a nice sunny suburb called Landsdale in Western Australia. Western Australia is known for it’s beaches and beautiful weather.

So far I have been to Scarborough, but Aunt Tenina forgot the camera! And also Sorrento. I will post those pictures later on.

Anyway, I am trying to get used to travelling in a handbag at the moment. I guess I will get used to it eventually!

I hope Sam is well and missing me!
